Awesome Printables

I came across these awesome Etsy shops that sell images for $1.00! (They will send you a high quality image without a watermark.) There are vintage pictures, mostly Victorian and Parisian, & calligraphy. A lot of it looks like images you would see throughout Anthropologie. You can use these images for screen-printing, iron-on transfer or create stationary! There are two shops, sepia and black. Love!

Children's Decor

I recently starting working for a company who sells baby and children's furniture and gifts. I serve as their in-house designer. There are so many ways to design a baby's room and still have the essence of a nursery but still be timeless. Here are some design ideas:

addicted to pinterest.....

So I have become borderline obsessed with Pinterest!

30 Sucks!

The other night I went out to dinner with some girls for work to celebrate a friend's 30th birthday! Some may look forward in being another decade older and embracing their thirties. On the other hand, some say that turning 30 just SUCKS! I made this for my friend and it was super cheap and inexpensive!

What you'll need:

1 glass cylinder  (I got mine at Michael's for about $4)
1 styrofoam ball that fits in the cylinder so that the top half is exposed
30 lollipops
Wrapping materials
Stickers

Place the styrofoam ball in the jar, it should fit snugly to where only half of it fits. You can spray paint the ball if you like, I left mine white. Start arranging the lollipops in a bouquet-like pattern. I started at the top. Wrap the jar in desired wrapping and add a bow to cover any visible part of the ball. Make a label that says "30 Sucks" and you're all finished!

What's nice about using a glass vase rather than a box is that it serves as a gift itself!

Moooo

I have never been much of a milk drinker. I like milk in my cereal, with a chocolaty dessert, or after I've accidentally eaten have a box of Oreos. I also cook with milk too, but not very frequently. I hate going to the grocery store and buying half a gallon of milk and then it goes bad before I finish it. (Those smaller containers are too small.) I recently discovered Horizon Organic milk. Absolutely brilliant. Not only does it taste fabulous, I'm drinking an individual milk box now, and no I'm not eating cake. What I love most, it has a longer shelf life. The single portion I'm drinking now was purchased yesterday. It expires Sept. 13. WOW. This is like a miracle. Yes I might have paid more for it, but I think it's worth it. I recommend everyone try it. You can find a coupon on their website

C'est bon

Kitchens

I grew up in the design industry. My dad owns his own design business and specializes in kitchens and bathrooms. (You can visit his website here!) I have always had a love for unique kitchen spaces. Growing up in the south, I know the importance of a home cooked meal and the joy of entertaining. I love country details in a kitchen, such as a large farmhouse sink, and french country elements.

Storage is also key, counter space is limited so I love creative storage ideas, like these baskets for produce that does not need to be refrigerated, such as potatoes and onions.

Cupcakes that make an Impression :)

I have always loved Van Gogh. And I have always loved cupcakes! I mean seriously who doesn't? These make for a great centerpiece, that is edible too! I can't wait to try this!!

Repurposed Fireplace Mantles

So in about three weeks I will move out of the apartment I have called home for the past four years and move back into my parent's house. (YIKES! I know.) So, I think it is time for a room makeover! I have always been a fan of mantles as headboards, and here are a few that are done VERY well. I can't wait to have one! I love the one's that are tufted!

Lobster and Shells Pasta Salad

One of my favorite things about summer is food. There are so many recipes that just scream "summer." There is nothing like spending a day in the sun and then kicking back at a cookout with a cold beverage (adult in my preference :D ) and cooling off with delicious food and the good company of family and friends. Food is more of an indulgence to me in the summer because so many fruits and vegetables are in season. Last week I tried a new recipe and I am in love! I have long searched for a pasta salad recipe that wasn't too oily, or too creamy, and that had the perfect balance of pasta/dressing/vegetable ratio. And alas! My answer lies within a Barefoot Contessa Cookbook: "How Easy is That"  DUH! Here is the recipe for Lobster and Shells:

Ingredients:

  • Kosher salt
  • Good olive oil
  • 1/2 pound small pasta shells, such as Ronzoni
  • Kernels from 8 ears of corn (about 6 cups)
  • 5 scallions, white and green parts, thinly sliced
  • 1 yellow or orange bell peppers, seeded and small-diced
  • 1 pints cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 pounds cooked fresh lobster meat, medium-diced
  • 1/2 cups good mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (4 lemons)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups minced fresh dill

Directions:

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add 2 tablespoons of salt and some olive oil. Add the pasta and cook it for 8 to 10 minutes, until al dente. Add the corn to the pasta and cook it for another 2 minutes, until the corn is tender. Drain the pasta and corn together in a colander and pour them into a large mixing bowl. Add the scallions, diced pepper, tomatoes, and lobster, tossing gently to combine. Allow to cool slightly.
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, 4 teaspoons salt, and 2 teaspoons pepper until smooth. Pour over the pasta and mix well to bind the ingredients. Stir in the dill. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for up to 6 hours to allow the flavors to develop. Check the seasonings and serve chilled or at room temperature.

Simple yet elegant up-do's

If you are a fan of fashion, the socialite lifestyle, and a good bit of drama to sink your teeth into, then I am sure you watch Gossip Girl. I tend to gawk over the clothes, accessories, and lifestyle that is all just too fabulous. One thing I've noticed through the series is Lily Van der Woodsen's hairstyles. She always wears her hair up in these effortless up-do's. Up-do's are not just for prom or black tie events, just think of it as a way to vamp up your ponytail if you didn't wash your hair that day! Now only if I knew how to do this...
